Blue Mountain Fishing Lakes in Pennsylvania

The Blue Mountain Lakes are located in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, near Route 895. The lakes are approximately an hour's drive west of Allentown, Pennsylvania, an hour and a half northwest of Philadelphia and two and a half hours west of New York. The Blue Mountain Lakes are part of the Kernsville Dam on the Schuylkill River.

  1. Fishing

    • The Blue Mountain Lakes are home to carp, catfish, bass, perch, trout, rockbass, eels and sunfish. There are no boat launches around the lakes. Small boats or canoes can be launched from the lake's banks by hand. Fishing passes can be purchased from the main resort at Blue Mountain Lakes. Catch and release fishing is not allowed at the lakes. Fishing passes allow for up to three trout, three bass and two catfish. A new pass must be purchased for any catches beyond that.

    Dining

    • The resort at Blue Mountain Lakes has a bar and restaurant that is open daily. The restaurant prepares specials throughout the week, including staples like their own cheese steak with beef or chicken topped with any of their 22 wing sauces. Tacos and margaritas are served every Tuesday, and Friday's special includes steamed clams, mussels and red snapper. On the weekend the chef prepares homemade dinner specials.

    Camping

    • Tent sites are available for rent on a nightly or weekly rate basis. Rates for a basic tent site covers up to four people. A modest fee is added for extra people. Rates for sites that provide electricity and water are higher and are available on a nightly, weekly or weekend basis. The camping area has an 11 p.m. noise curfew.

    Events

    • Blue Mountain Lakes is host to several monthly events. A 48-hour catfish tournament is held in certain months. Other events include poker tournaments, a trout rodeo and live music every Saturday night. Live music is also sometimes performed outside on the deck, weather permitting. Breakfast is served on Saturdays and Sundays at the resort. Events run throughout the summer months into mid-September.

    Getting to Blue Mountain Lakes

    • The Blue Mountain Lakes are located at 60 Blue Mountain Road in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania. From the north, the lakes are best reached via Interstate 81 south to exit 104, then taking Pine Grove to Route 895 east. Turn right after the St. Mark's Church sign. If coming from Allentown and places east, take Route 78 west to Route 61 north, then to Route 895. From there follow the Blue Mountain Fishing Lakes signs. If approaching from places south, take Interstate 83 north to Interstate 81 north to Route 78, then to Route 501 north. Turn right after the St. Mark's Church sign.
