Blue Ridge Mountain Getaways

The Blue Ridge Mountains, part of the Appalachian Mountain Range, are a favorite vacation destination for many travelers. They include the Great Smokey Mountains, and span several states from northern Georgia to Virginia. The extraordinary natural beauty and majesty of the Blue Ridge Mountains accounts for their popularity among vacationers who want to get away from it all.
  1. Mount Mitchell State Park

    • The Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina are a great place to camp.

Mount Mitchell State Park is the home of the tallest point in the eastern United States. For a fun family getaway or a romantic escape, Mount Mitchell offers a back-to-nature camping experience for relaxing and renewing the spirit. The park offers nine campsites with nearby restrooms. Water is accessible but there is no electricity. There are also two primitive campsites that will accommodate from 20 to 40 people at Commissary Ridge and Deep Gap. Take in the breathtaking vistas from this high spot along the Blue Ridge by hiking along the park trails. Visitors can picnic under the trees or, in chillier weather, take advantage of the fireplaces in the park picnic shelters. In May 2010, campsites with running water and picnic table were $20 or $15 for seniors. Winter rates were $12.
