How to Entertain Yourself While Flying

I don't think anyone really enjoys flying these days. It's long, tedious, boring and if you're big or tall, may even be painful. Use these strategies to make the best of it and keep yourself entertained while flying.

Things You'll Need

  • Drinks
  • Snacks
  • Book
  • Toys
  • Ear plugs
  • Headphones

Instructions

Plan ahead like you're a kid -- pack snacks. Don't sit there in your tiny seat and fret because you're hungry or thirsty. Take matters into your own hands. After you get through security buy a bottle of water. Now you can drink when thirsty and not wait for the beverage cart. Use the beverage cart as a bonus drink to get a soda or juice. Assume the airline is not going to give you any snacks and you won't be disappointed when they don't. Bring some with you. If it will be a mealtime you may want to bring a sandwich but otherwise bring fun snacks like M&M's or peanut butter and cheese crackers.

Bring reading materials. For long flights bring a book by your favorite author. Think "brain candy", not reading assignment. Time will go faster with a fun bestseller than with a textbook. Magazines can be a good solution as well but make sure you bring enough reading material to last the flight.

Bring toys. Video games on your phone or other hand-held device can be played through most of the trip as long as there is no wireless signal emanating from it. Not into electronics? Pack a crossword puzzle or Sudoku book.

    • 4

Go into your own world. Bring ear plugs and you won't notice the screaming baby a couple rows away. Bring your own ear buds so you can watch the movie without paying for crappy earphones that have been you don't know where. Once you've tuned out with ear plugs or headphones, enjoy a nap.

Notice a theme here? Regress to childhood with nap time, snacks and toys and the flight will pass before you know it.
