How to Camp in a Honda Element

The Honda Element is one of the best cars for car camping because of the sheer amount of space inside the vehicle. The backs eats come out, the front seats recline flat for comfortable seating, and the cargo side doors let you reach items inside without straining to reach. There's even a trailer hitch attached for towing behind a small camper. You just need to learn how to camp in a Honda Element.

Prepare your car before you head off on your camping trip. It doesn't matter if you plan on camping in a trailer, a tent or the back of your car because you'll still need the right gear. Always make sure to bring along a first aid kit, towels for cleaning up around the site and for washing and trash bags.

Look for a tent trailer of 300 pounds or less such as those available from Leesure Lite and Time Out Trailers. These trailers tow behind your Honda Element but expand for maximum space. Tent trailers work similar to pop-up campers in that you need to turn the crank and push the top up, but it's easy to work one and it gives you more space for camping.

Attach a tent to the back of your Honda Element. This works particularly well if you have a tent with two entrances. Set the tent up behind the car, but arrange the tent so that one entrance opens directly into the back of the vehicle. You then have easy access to the car and your tent.

Camp in your Honda Element exactly the way it comes off the line. The layout of the seats makes it especially easy to camp in a Honda Element. You can remove the back seats, which gives you sleeping space, or keep those seats in place and recline the front seats. If camping in the back, consider using sleeping bags for added comfort.

Turn an Element into a miniature camper. There are several Element owners doing just this, by removing one of the back seats and adding the features they need. You can add a small counter area, with cabinets underneath, and even add waterlines. You still have room for sleeping beside the cabinet and sleeping room in front but with the features of a full-size camper.
