How to submit my application for a free Green Card - DV 2011

Make sure that a country of your origin (you are currently a citizen of) is eligible for participation in a DV 2011 lottery. The natives of the following countries are not eligible to apply: Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Poland, South Korea, United Kingdom and Vietnam. (Consult with the Department of State website regarding a complete list of the qualified countries).

Mark the date on your calendar. Your application must be submitted between noon, Friday, October 2nd, 2009, and noon, Monday, November 30th, 2009. The Department of State will be accepting the applications only in electronic format. You can submit your application only once; otherwise, you will be disqualified. However, if you are married, each of the family members, who is 21 or older, can submit his or her own application.

Prepare your digital photo. Your photos must be the most recent and in a digital format or scanned. Follow these guidelines.

• Image file format: joint photographic group (JPEG).
• Size: maximum is 240 kilobytes (240 KB).
• Resolution & dimensions: 600 pixels (width) X 600 pixels (height).
• Color depth: 24-bit.
  If you are married and have kids, you will have to submit photos for all family members (except children who are 21 or older).
