A Kid's Guide to Las Vegas

Planning to bring your kids to Las Vegas? The southern Nevada city may be known as a playground for adults, but there is plenty of fun to be had for kids, too. Whether your kids are toddlers or teens, there is something for everyone in Las Vegas, both on and off the legendary Strip. Consider these recommendations for where to sleep, eat and play during your upcoming family trip to Las Vegas.

  1. Hotels

    • When it comes to hotels, no other city in the world compares to Las Vegas. Would your kids rather stay in a pyramid or a castle? Paris or New York City?

The Luxor, Excalibur, Paris and New York New York hotels are just a few of the kid-friendly resorts on the Las Vegas Strip. Each has their own unique attractions, ranging from roller coasters and arcades to food courts and swimming pools.

    Restaurants

    • When the kids get hungry, take them to one of the many family-friendly restaurants in Las Vegas. Locals swear by the hamburgers at In-N-Out Burger, located in several neighborhoods throughout the city. Kids 12 and under eat for free at some of the hotel buffets, including the Circus Circus buffet. And the fried macaroni and cheese at the Cheesecake Factory, located in the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, is also a hit with kids.

Young nature lovers will enjoy the Rainforest Café. Located in the MGM Grand, this restaurant looks and sounds like a tropical rainforest, complete with a crocodile pond and animals that come to life during a thunderstorm. There's even a Sparkling Volcano, but that is found on the menu--in the form of a huge ice cream sundae.

    Strip Attractions

    • On the Las Vegas Strip, take young thrill seekers to the Adventuredome Theme Park at Circus Circus. Laser tag and roller coasters await older kids at the indoor theme park. Younger kids can ride the bumper cars and merry-go-round.

The Luxor also has some unique activities for kids. The hotel features BODIES... The Exhibition and Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition. Kids under 3 are free at both.

And for the animal lovers in your family, take them to the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay. The aquarium features 14 exhibits with more than 2,000 aquatic animals, including 15 shark species.

    Off-Strip Attractions

    • For a little casino-free fun and some fresh air, take the kids to Town Square. Located at 6605 Las Vegas Blvd South, Town Square is an outdoor city center just south of the glitz and glamour of the Strip. It features an array of restaurants and shops, along with a movie theater. There are also outdoor movie screenings on select evenings during the summer.

During your visit to Town Square, take younger kids to the children's park. The park features a 42-foot-tall tree house with a rock wall, slides and a bridge that connects to a fort. There is also a merry-go-round, a playhouse specifically for toddlers and a hedge maze full of interactive animal topiaries. The nearby children's theater offers story time and performances at various times throughout the day.
