Fun Places in Buffalo

Buffalo is a city in the western part of New York. Buffalo has been a center of travel, especially since the early 19th century, because of its close proximity to the Erie Canal. Buffalo is a popular tourist destination because of its close proximity to Niagara Falls. Fun places to go in and near Buffalo include a zoo and nature preserve, theaters, stadiums, museums and an art park.
  1. Zoo and Nature Preserve

    • Originally a deer park when it was established in 1875, the Buffalo Zoo has animals such as Siberian tigers, rock hyrax, Puerto Rican crested toads and Lady Moss' plantain eaters. The Tifft Nature Preserve was opened in 1976, and it features shorebirds, flycatchers, and red and white-winged crossbills.

    Theaters

    • At Shea's Performing Arts Center, one can see comedic and theatrical shows, including performances of Broadway shows such as Rent and Grease. Located in North Tonawanda, the Historic Riviera Theatre was built in 1926. At the theater, you can see plays, musicals, film festivals and orchestral concerts.

    Stadiums

    • Completed in 1973, Ralph Wilson Stadium is the home of the Buffalo Bills, a professional National Football League team that has had players such as O.J. Simpson. Buffalo's professional National Hockey League team, the Buffalo Sabres, plays at the waterfront HSBC Arena.

    Museums

    • Originally a metal factory when it was opened in 1916, the Original American Kazoo Factory is a museum and metal kazoo factory that features kazoo exhibits and demonstrations on how kazoos are made. At the Buffalo Museum of Science, one can see exhibits on dinosaur fossils, and the formation of galaxies and interactive lessons on traditional clothes from other countries and the study of bones.

    Art Park

    • Located on the Niagara River Gorge in Lewiston, Artpark is a public park used as a public art space. At this park, one can observe artists working on different types of visual artwork and/or watch concerts or professional theatrical productions.
