The world-famous Shamu awaits you at one of San Diego's premiere theme parks. Located in Mission Bay, SeaWorld is filled with amazing sea creatures, fun rides and great shows. You can pet the dolphins, hold a starfish or roar down an inner tube at Shipwreck Rapids; just don't expect to stay dry! One of SeaWorld's most famous residents is Shamu, the Killer Whale. He stars twice daily in his very own show, which is a must-see when you are at the park.
The boardwalk at Mission Bay is home to the Giant Dipper, a world famous, old-fashioned wooden roller-coaster situated just steps from the sandy San Diego beach. The roller-coaster first opened in the 1920s as part of an amusement park to attract visitors to San Diego. The coaster has been restored since, and it has been a popular place to hang out for people of all ages. Surrounding the coaster are bumper cars and a carousel, and if the salt water is too much for you, there is a swimming pool near by. You will also find plenty of places to eat and shop in Belmont Park. When you are tired of whirling around on the Giant Dipper, grab your towel and enjoy the beach.
If you love the outdoors, Mission Bay has plenty for you to do. Outdoor activities such as biking and water sports are very popular in Mission Bay. There are a number of scenic paths for bikes and pedestrians that take you along the bay side and beach side. Mission Bay has areas especially designated for you to enjoy jet skis, boating or water skiing. There are also places where you can rent bikes, water equipment and more.
Mission Bay is also the home of some beautiful, picturesque resorts that are worth staying at or walking through. The Bahia Resort Hotel is a tropical oasis that is filled with koi ponds and tropical gardens. The Paradise Point Resort is one of Mission Bay's premier destinations and is located on the bay side. Similar to the Bahia, it is filled with tropical gardens and beautiful scenery. Both resorts offer great restaurants and shopping.
The most obvious thing to do in Mission Bay is to hang out at the beach. Grab a boogie board and try to catch a wave, or hang out by the boardwalk and watch the eclectic mix of people walking by. If you choose to head to the bay side, there are a number of grassy park areas to enjoy with the kids.
