Things to Do in Lake Harmony, Pennsylvania

Lake Harmony, Pennsylvania, is an unincorporated village located in the western part of the Poconos Mountains. With a population of just under 1,400 permanent residents, the area is 105 miles from New York City and 95 miles from Philadelphia, but a world away from the noise and crowds of city life. Great snowfall makes it a fantastic ski location in winter, and the mild summers provide plenty of opportunities for outdoor fun.
  1. Split Rock Resort

    • The Split Rock Resort and Golf Club is located on Lake Harmony and includes not just lodging but opportunities for year-round activities, including golf, swimming, tennis, archery, paddle boats, hiking, billiards and bowling.

The Split Rock Resort Indoor Water Park offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy hours of water activities away from the elements. It boasts Pennsylvania's first indoor flowrider--for indoor surfing--called the Komodo Dragon. There's also a surf pool called Hurricane Cove, where waves can reach 6 feet. Experience the Viper and the Piranha, the enclosed water slides, and get drenched in Jungle Falls, a three-story tree house with water canons, geysers, squirt guns and soaking water buckets. There are also hot tubs, soaking pools, a toddler play area and a food court. Bring your own towel or buy one at the gift shop.

    Jack Frost/Big Boulder

    • Big Boulder and Jack Frost Mountain--or "The Big Two," as they are sometimes called--offer spectacular lodging and skiing opportunities. With an annual snowfall of more than 60 inches, the area is one of the best locations for skiing in the Poconos. Big Boulder is widely recognized as a family-friendly mountain, whereas Jack Frost offers more rugged skiing conditions. The two mountains are only six miles apart and offer joint ski-lift tickets. Snowmobiling, sledding and ice skating are also available. The snowmaking and grooming features of the area make it a safe bet even when there has been snow melt. Kids may especially enjoy the snow tubing available.

    Hickory Run State Park

    • Nestled in the foothills of the Poconos Mountains, Hickory Run State Park is 15,990 acres of hiking trails, trout streams and the Boulder Field, a National Natural Landmark. Sand Spring Lake, located in the park, offers swimming and a picnic area with a snack bar. The park has 43 miles of trails for every level of hiker. Some of the trails also offer cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Pay attention to the posted signs to know what is allowed on each trail. For optimum nature viewing, choose June and July for mountain blooms and October for fall foliage. Fishing is also available in the park, with many streams and lakes to chose from. Hunters, too, can enjoy the park during appropriate seasons. Seasons are available for white-tailed deer, turkey, black bear and gray squirrel. The Boulder Field is a flat expanse of boulders measuring 400 feet by 1,800 feet. The field is without vegetation and has remained much as it is today for more than 20,000 years.
