Things to Do in Ohio and Erie, Pennsylvania

Though Erie, Pennsylvania, and the state of Ohio are two different locations, there are distinct connections between the two. For instance, Erie is just 30 miles east of the Ohio border and it, along with the city of Cleveland, is nestled along the shore of Lake Erie. They are both set in the same region of the United States and both Erie, Pennsylvania, and different cities in Ohio have unique attractions and things to do.
  1. Erie, Pennsylvania

    • Erie is nestled in the westernmost corner of Pennsylvania on the shores of Lake Erie. Culturally, Erie has several performing-arts groups such as the Erie Philharmonic that was established in 1913, the Lake Erie Ballet and the Erie Civic Music Association, which sponsors performers from around the globe. Erie also offers Presque Isle Downs & Casino, which has live Thoroughbred horse racing, casino gaming, dining and lounges. Another local attraction is the Watson-Curtze Mansion situated along Erie's millionaire's row. The mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was built in 1891.

      One of Erie's most popular attractions is Presque Isle State Park, a 3,200-acre peninsula on Lake Erie offering outdoor activities like swimming, boating, fishing, bird watching, biking, walking and in-line skating. Waldameer & Water World amusement park has amusement park rides and attractions and a seasonal outdoor water park, while Splash Lagoon indoor water park provides water slides and one of the largest arcades in the area.

    Cleveland, Ohio

    • Sixty miles west of Pennsylvania on the southern shore of Lake Erie, Cleveland, Ohio, is nicknamed the Rock n' Roll capital of the world. This moniker undoubtedly is a result of it being the home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum. The museum is set in 150,000 square feet of space situated on seven floors. This attraction celebrates music and features a 3-D concert film of the widely popular band U2. For anyone wanting to experience an authentic tour of the city of Cleveland, Lolly the Trolley has city sightseeing, youth and specialty tours for 25 or more guests available. During the Christmas season, Lolly the Trolley also has a holiday lights ride.

    Columbus, Ohio

    • Columbus is not only the capital, but it is also the largest city in Ohio. There are many parks to choose from in Columbus like the Inniswood Metro Gardens, Battelle-Darby Creek Metro Park and Whetstone Park that is home to the Park of Roses rose garden. The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has a variety of land and sea creatures and attractions such as the Polar Frontier that allows guests to see polar bears swimming overhead. The zoo is also a part of a manatee rescue and rehabilitation program where young manatees are housed.
