How to Vacation in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter with a Baby

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened June 18, 2010 as part of the Universal Studios Island of Adventure theme parks in Florida. Even though it's relatively small compared to the other parks, it's still large enough that seeing the park with a baby can be a challenge. Visitors with infants need to know a few things to know before stepping into Hogsmeade village

Things You'll Need

  • Stroller
  • Baby carrier

Instructions

  1. Walking and Waiting in Lines

    • 1

Put the baby in a small or medium sized stroller. Large strollers or side-by-side double strollers will be difficult to navigate through streets of Hogsmeade because they are narrow. Don't carry the child as Universal Studios is very large and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is one of the farthest sections from the park entrance.

    • 2

Park the stroller in designated areas outside of the ride lines. Strollers are never permitted in lines for rides. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey has stroller parking to the right of the castle entrance. Dragon Challenge has a small stroller parking area by the train station lockers to the right of the ride entrance.

    • 3

Bring baby supplies in a bag or back pack, and put the baby in the baby carrier when entering ride lines. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is the most popular ride in the park. The wait can be up to three hours long during the busy summer season. The baby may be able to sleep in the carrier easier than in a persons arms.

    Child Swapping for Rides

    • 4

Enter the single rider line instead of the regular wait line. Tell the park workers you are doing both the single rider and the parent swap options. This makes the wait about three times shorter. The Child Swap area for both Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and the Dragon Challenge ride are air conditioned rooms with changing tables and benches at the front of the lines.

    • 5

Wait in the single rider line. One person waits in the single rider line while the other person may go straight to the Child Swap area.

    • 6

Swap with the person waiting in the Child Swap area. After the first person has finished the ride, he enters the Child Swap area and the second person is placed in the first available group as a single rider.

    Shops and Eats

    • 7

Eat at the Three Broomsticks. Strollers can be parked outside or brought inside. This can be a good place to get the baby to nap because it is cool and has a constant hum of noise, but is not too loud.

    • 8

Buy drinks at the Hogshead instead of the carts on the street of Hogsmeade. Lines at the cart tend to be very long compared with lines at the Hogshead. Also, the Hogshead is air conditioned so the baby to cool off for a time.

    • 9

Place the baby in the carrier for all the shops. The shops are very crowded and narrow. Even a small stroller is difficult to navigate through the shops and the people.
