How to Swim With the Dolphins at Sea World

Swimming with the dolphins is an exciting adventure, but swimming with them at Sea World is an adventure unto itself. Discovery Cove is a sister park operated by Sea World and among their many tours is the dolphin encounter. Picture yourself in a beautiful pool with dolphins and being able to interact with them one on one. Imagine what you can tell all of your friends and family about the experience.

      You must make a reservation first. Reservations are limited to 1000 guests per day. This allows the parks to offer intimate service with no waiting in lines. You can only make reservations through their toll free number but are allowed to check on your trip online. The number for reservations is 1-877-434-7268, and for international guests the number is 1-407-370-1280.

      Know your budget. Discovery Cove admission is quite expensive to some and with the dolphin encounter, it’s even pricier. Admission varies by approximately $20 depending on the dates you want to visit. Prices are $269-289 per person per day. Keep in mind extras such as other souvenirs and pictures.

      Know what is included. Since this is an all-inclusive day your admission price includes your locker usage, a wetsuit, towels, special sunscreen that you are allowed to use near the animals, free parking, shower and restroom amenities, a complimentary photo, souvenir snorkel, continental breakfast, lunch, snacks and access to the rest of Discovery Cove. Best of all, you get a 7-day pass to Bush Gardens or Sea World.

      Know your restrictions. Discovery Cove doesn’t put restrictions on expectant mothers or persons with disabilities. They do ask that you are able to maneuver around the park with little assistance and if you are pregnant, to consult with your doctor first to explain what is involved in the dolphin encounter.

      Know the refund policy. Discovery Cove offers a full refund if you have to cancel your reservation within 30 days of your arrival. The refund is less from there on. If you cancel between 15-29 days you will receive half of your reservation cost and within 8-14 days you get back 25% of the money you’ve paid. Any cancellations within 7 days of your visit will cause you to default your reservation costs and receive no refund.

      Have fun. The dolphin encounter includes swimming with the dolphins in water depths between 3 and 15 feet. You will be able to kiss the dolphin, pet the dolphin and even participate in a dorsal fin pull that tows you 12 feet through the water.
