Tips on Taking Pictures in Disney World

Walt Disney World in Central Florida is an incredible vacation destination enjoyed by millions of people every year, and recording your memories of this place in the form of photographs is a must. Assuming you understand all the basics of taking a photo, including how to work your camera and having plenty of film or digital storage space, then here are some tips that will help ensure you come back with great photos of your trip.
  1. Easy Composition

    • It's very easy to get caught up on taking photos of everything you see at Walt Disney World because it seems everywhere you look there is something visually appealing. However, this shotgun approach will mean you spend a lot of time looking through your lens and not enough time exploring this vast destination for yourself and enjoying the sights and sounds that make it so great.

As this is common problem, Walt Disney World has done some of the work for you. Pick up the free maps available for all the parks and check out the locations marked "Kodak Photo Spot" and be sure to stop at those places (they'll be marked with a sign) as you walk around the parks, according to MickeyTown.com. These spots have been chosen by the park designers to offer the best, most interesting and most colorful places to take breathtaking photos like the ones you would expect to see on a Disney brochure.

    Include Your Party

    • When you get back home only to realize that the majority of your photographs are of cool rides, buildings and characters but you or your party are not in many of them, it's going to be disappointing. Be sure to stage photographs of your family or friends in front of, or on, those cool rides and buildings or hugging the characters to make far superior images for your scrapbook.

Also include candid photos of your party at the hotel or at one of the many interesting restaurants doing the non-park related things that many people end up talking about for years later even more than their favorite ride. Suppose dad fell asleep early back at the hotel and mom let the kids put shaving cream all over his face and then tickled him with a feather only to snap a photo just as he smashed the cream all over his face? That's a photo you want to have when you get back home.

    Character Events

    • Be sure to make reservations for character dining and look for the places where Disney characters do meet and greets in the parks. In addition to the fun you and any children with you will have at these events, they are prime opportunities for photos.

    Ask Someone Else

    • Even if you follow all of these tips, you may still miss one obvious thing once you get back home and look at the photographs. You aren't in any of them. What a bummer.

If you are the designated photographer, be sure to have others in your party take photos of you. According to MousePlanet.com, you should not hesitate to find a friendly face in the crowd and ask them to take photos of your entire party. Try to do this at least once a day.
