The targets located throughout the ride come in four different shapes: circle, square, diamond and triangle. These targets are worth different amounts of points. The corresponding point values are 100 points for a circle, 1,000 points for a square, 5,000 for a diamond, and 10,000 for a triangle. When racking up points, don't get distracted by the enormous amounts of circles there are on the ride. Wait until you see the diamonds and triangles and then let loose. Each target can be hit multiple times and with the slow moving speed of the ride, once you find one of these you should be able to score several hits. Also, some of the targets light up, and when they do, they are worth more points (200 for a circle, 5,000 for a square, 10,000 for a diamond, and 50,000 for a triangle). The object, therefore, is to hit as many of the lit-up triangles as you can.
Since the ride has targets on both sides of the vehicle, the Disney Imagineers came up with a system which lets you spin the car to face the targets. Many people haphazardly twist their car in order to see as much of the ride as possible and thinking this will present them with more targets. Actually, all this does is disorient the passenger which puts his aim off. What you should do is to keep the car facing in one direction and learn where all of the high scoring targets are on one side of the room. Once learned (you'll have to go on the ride several times to learn where they are located), spin the car around and stay facing the other side. Once you have learned where all of the high scoring targets are, you will be able to better spin the car to hit all of them.
Be on the lookout for hidden targets. In the ride are two statues of the character Zurg. In the center of his chest is a small black dot. This black dot is the center of a hidden target worth 50,000 points. In the beginning of the ride, Zurg is actually very close to your ca,r so use this opportunity to rack up as many points as possible. The second Zurg toward the end of the ride is further away, but also has the hidden target. Remember, you can hit the target multiple times, which makes these hidden targets a great way to rack up points.
