The abandoned house of Jackson Creek Road sits 20 miles from Lexington in Denton, North Carolina. Legend of the house revolves around a couple who met their demise at the site. Upset for an unknown reason, the husband came home and immediately shot his wife. A few minutes later, the man went upstairs and then committed suicide with his own gun. Blood in the area of the murder as well as the suicide was thoroughly cleaned to remove all traces of the incident. The next day, blood reappeared in the same locations. Local residents believe the room where the homeowner committed suicide has since been closed to the public because of the constantly reappearing blood stains.
Franklin, North Carolina, 23 miles from Lexington, is the site where Poor Richard's Inn stood. A fire in 2006 destroyed the building but many in the area believe ghosts are still there. During the late 1880s, a young woman in her twenties was killed in the dining room. Reports say that late at night she could be seen backing away from the dining table where a man in 1880s attire stands. As she moves away, the man appears to stab her.
Within 21 miles of Lexington, Winston Salem has several haunted places. The former Wachovia building in the downtown area of the city features the story of a man who jumped to his death during the 1990s. For each anniversary of the act, a man is supposedly seen jumping from the same location, then disappears as he lands on the pavement.
At Salem College for Women, a student committed suicide by hanging herself in the Gramely Dorm attic. The attic has since been become a third floor of the dorm. Guests on the second floor report hearing the sound of someone dragging a trunk across the floor that stops in the area of the suicide, while people on the third floor hear nothing. Also at the college, the Gramely Library is reportedly haunted by two girls who were electrocuted in 1907. People report hearing screams in the area of their death.
