Fun Things to Do in New York City With a 5-Year-Old

Traveling with a 5-year-old, even to the grocery store, can be a challenge. Visiting New York City with a young child is outright daunting. Activities that hold a young child's attention long enough to enjoy them, helps prevent tired and grumpy little travelers.
  1. Ice Skating

    • Young skaters can enjoy the day at Wollman Rink.

Burn off some energy at Wollman Rink, located at Central Park South and Sixth Avenue. Nestled below the skyscrapers in Central Park, Wollman Rink is designed for both beginner and more advanced ice skaters. It features an 8,000 square foot skate tent and warming area for breaks. Wollman Rink's season begins in October and, as of October 2010, rates for children under 11 is $5.50 to $5.75, plus a $6.25 skate rental if necessary.

The tea party begins at 12:30 and, as of October 2010, costs $40 a person and $20 for children under 3. Designed for children ages 3 to 12, the tea party features snacks such as scones, banana splits and cupcakes.
