Kids Activities in Columbus, Ohio

Columbus gets national recognition as the capital city of Ohio, the home of The Ohio State University and for having two major professional sports teams, the NHL's Blue Jackets and the MLS' Columbus Crew. Columbus--Ohio's largest city with over 754,000 people--is located in the central part of the state. The city also includes activities for kids.

    • "Parents" magazine named the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) as the best science center in the country in its ranking released in 2008. The magazine gauged how well the centers made learning fun for children. The criteria included exhibits, events and science demonstrations. COSI's hands-on exhibits include learning about science and testing your skills as an astronaut, discovering what technology was like in 1898 and 1962 and learning about oceans. COSI also has live shows, such as one that teaches and demonstrates the science of fireworks.

    Columbus Clippers

    • The Columbus Clippers are the Cleveland Indians' Class AAA minor league baseball team that competes in the International League. The team plays 71 home games from April until the first week of September. The team has a full slate of promotions geared for families and kids. They include giveaway nights like free baseball cards, a chance to meet two players and get their autograph before every Wednesday game, fireworks after selected games and appearances by characters like Curious George. Additionally, the team has a discounted ticket package every Sunday. Two adults and four kids 18 and under can see a game for $15. The Clippers also offer hot dogs for 10 cents each at a handful of games.

    Fort Rapids Indoor Waterpark Resort

    • The Fort Rapids Indoor Waterpark Resort features activities for children. The Kiddie Korral has two small water slides and a play area. Kids can also play in the Rascal Round Up area that has four larger slides and a water cannon that allows kids to shoot their buddies with water. Kids who measure 40 inches can enter a Cowboy Creek area and float in tubes. Parents can enter a hot tub for adults while their kids play. The waterpark offers kids activities on the weekend, including a dance party, karaoke and story time. Additionally, the venue has an arcade with video games, air hockey and skee ball.
