Southampton, New York is a historic town located in Suffolk County in the South Fork of Long Island and around a three-hour drive from New York City. The town has a colorful history; it was founded by English settlers in 1640 and features a number of well-preserved historic buildings. Southampton features a number of museums and cultural exhibits as well as seven miles of scenic oceanfront with 11 sandy beaches.

    • Located in the center of town, Southampton Cultural center focuses on art and music. It is home to a noted youth orchestra with regular chamber music concerts. A large center stage plays host to classical music and summer jazz performances. There are music classes for adults and children and regular temporary art exhibitions.

    Parrish Art Museum

    • Constructed in 1898, Parrish Art Museum features permanent displays of contemporary works by American artists such as William Merritt Chase and Jackson Pollock. It includes a picturesque Italian sculpture garden and also hosts regular movie screenings. Visitors can enjoy occasional music concerts, art workshops and lectures.

    Southampton Historical Museum

    • The Southampton Historical Museum displays artifacts from the 17th and 18th centuries including art from local Shinnecock Native American tribes.     Coopers Beach

    • Coopers Beach is the most conveniently located and popular of the beaches near Southampton. It has fine, gently sloping sand and a shady tree-lined boardwalk. It offers relaxing days of sunbathing or windsurfing with amenities such as restrooms, showers, lifeguards and a small number of beachfront cafes. Its slightly exposed location also affords views of the town's historic beachfront mansion houses.

    Shinnecock Hills Golf Club

    • Shinnecock Hills Golf Club is situated just north of Southampton town center and was voted third in Golf Digest's 100 Greatest Courses. It is also the oldest private 18-hole golf course in the country. It is an extremely challenging course best suited to experienced golfers and has played host to the U.S. Open golf championship in 1986 and 1995.

    Long Island University

    • During the busy summer months, the Southampton campus of Long Island University opens its doors to the public, hosting a wide range of special events. Some popular events include the annual Pianofest In The Hamptons festival and the All For The Sea fund-raising concert which has attracted major artists such as Paul Simon. There is a full program of activities for young and old including art workshops, theater performances, readings and music classes.
