Griffin, Georgia Attractions

Griffin, Georgia, has been featured in movies like Driving Miss Daisy and The Fighting Temptations. In 1833, General Lewis Lawrence Griffin received authority to build a railroad from Macon to Forsyth, Georgia. The first steam engine came through town in 1842. Several historical attractions are located in this city that draws tourists and school kids for field trips as well.
  1. Griffin City Park

    • The Griffin City Park is located within a few blocks of the historic downtown. This park offers picnic tables, 18-hole regular and miniature golf courses, playground, baseball fields, tennis courts, street hockey court and pool. This public park is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

    Griffin Ballet Theatre

    • The Griffin Ballet Theatre is a non-profit organization that allows students that dance a place to show off and improve their skills. The Griffin Choral Arts and Griffin Ballet Theatre presents events that have a full chorus, live orchestra and dance.     Roosevelt Railroad

    • The Roosevelt Railroad is owned by the Roosevelt Railroad Museum and began operation in 1887. President Franklin D. Roosevelt made over 50 trips on these tracks, and his funeral train traveled them in 1945 en route to Washington, D.C. This railroad museum owns approximately 7 miles of track for scenic rail tours. It also has pieces of old railroad equipment on display for tourists and visitors.

    Griffin Museum

    • The Griffin Museum is located above the City of Griffin offices and has memorabilia dated as far back as the 1800s. Old dental, pharmaceutical and medical supplies and equipment can be found in this museum. Local schools often bring students to this museum during Black History month for a special display. Many items such as old police and firefighter uniforms and furniture made from salvaged wood from some of the old mills can be found here.
