Georgia Attractions for Kids

Georgia's southern hospitality extends to everyone, including kids. Georgia, which borders five states, is the country's ninth-largest state with an estimated population of 9.8 million, according to the 2009 U.S. Census Bureau population estimate. Families can find a range of kid-friendly attractions throughout Georgia.
  1. The Georgia Children's Museum

    • The Georgia Children's Museum promotes family interaction and features exhibits and programs to spark a child's curiosity. Kids can learn about journalism, discover the cultures of different countries and sample life as a Native American. The museum's monthly activities include art and crafts time on the first Thursday of each month, a coloring activity on the first and third Tuesday of every month and a toddler play time the last Thursday of the month. Additionally, The Georgia Children's Museum has programs throughout the year, including a Dr. Seuss Reading Day and a Christmas program. The museum is located in Macon in the central part of the state.

    Pine Mountain Wild Animal Safari

    • Kids don't just watch animals in cages at the Pine Mountain Wild Animal Safari. Rather, visitors can touch animals that come right up to their cars during a drive through the 200 acre park. The friendly animals include American bisons, giraffes and black buck antelopes. The safari sells feed that kids can use to feed the animals. The Walk-About area is like a traditional zoo with animals such as bears, wolves and alligators on display. The safari is located in Pine Mountain in western Georgia.

    Augusta GreenJackets

    • Kids can watch future big league stars play minor league baseball for the Augusta GreenJackets, the Class A South Atlantic League affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Augusta has hosted 12 minor league teams since 1885. Stars such as Ty Cobb, Hanley Ramirez and Dustin Pedroia played for Augusta teams before reaching the major leagues. The GreenJackets, which play 70 home games from April to September, have promotions, like free t-shirts and fireworks, throughout season that appeal to families. Additionally, kids under 12 get a complimentary hot dog, soda and popcorn on Sundays. Augusta is in eastern Georgia.

    Wild Adventures Water and Theme Park

    • The Wild Adventures Water and Theme Park offers a variety of activities to keep kids busy. It has more than 30 rides, including roller coasters, long water slides, a wave pool and a ferris wheel. The Wild Adventures section has more than 50 species of mammals, birds and reptiles. The park also hosts concerts of national touring musicians like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Wynonna. The theme park is in Valdosta, located in southern Georgia near the Florida border.
