Attractions in Cancun

Cancun, on the tip of the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, is a planned resort that launched in 1973. The resort offers outdoor adventure, shopping, dining, nightlife and a glimpse at ancient cultures.
  1. Bullfights

    • Every Wednesday in tourist season, people can watch a bullfight in the Plaza de Toros Cancun. Before the bullfight is a demonstration of folk dancing.

    Mayan Ruins

    • Mayan ruins, including Chichen Itza and Tulun, are close enough to be an easy day trip from Cancun. Chichen Itza, one of Mexico's largest ruins, dates back to 600 A.D. and includes the Kulkulkan pyramid. Tulun, the ruins of a small walled city, is located by the ocean, and has a steep overlook where people can look down at the water.

    Golf

    • There are several 18-hole golf courses in Cancun, with pars ranging from 73 to 54. The Robert Trent Jones course at the Hilton Cancun Beach and Golf Resort incorporates one of Cancun's ruins--Ruinas Del Ray, which may have been a royal burial ground.

    Isla Mujeres

    • The island offers the chance to swim with dolphins, snorkel, scuba dive, walk on the beach, and dine at a variety of waterside restaurants. Isla Mujeres is a 45-minute ferry ride from Cancun.

    Coco Bongo

    • People looking for nightlife will find a wide selection in Cancun. At Coco Bongo, clubbers will be entertained by a mix of performances, from trapeze artists to scenes from popular movies being acted out, all while the dance music plays.

    Shopping

    • A variety of shopping locations are available in Cancun, from large malls to small shops that feature local arts and crafts.
