Open the links at at the point where you wish to insert a new link by placing the link inside the side jaws of the pliers and squeezing the handles. This will spread open the links.
Insert the extension link into the end of one of the open links and insert the open end of the original link into the jaws on the top of the pliers and squeeze the handles shut. This will close the links together. Repeat for the other side to finish adding the link.
Insert links that are crimped too tightly into the side jaws and squeeze the handles to open them up slightly and give the chains more movement.
Install the chains on your tires and tighten them only after driving forward 15 feet to make sure they fit properly. If the chains do not fit over the tires without removing air, add more links. Do not deflate tires to install chains.
