Hotel Bathtub Safety

According to Philadelphia personal injury attorney Jeffrey Reiff, the majority of accidents that occur in a hotel take place in the bathtub or shower. Many safety requirements in hotel bathrooms are voluntary, making safety standards vary from hotel to hotel.
  1. Shower Slips

    • The floors inside of hotel showers can be extremely slippery because of poor cleaning, maintenance or design. Rooms with separate showers are safer because these floors have individual tiles that provide greater grip versus combination baths and showers with a single, slick surface.

    Bathroom Slips

    • Falls in hotels can also occur when a person first leaves the shower. Poor quality mats can make floors extra slippery. Marble floors are also a danger as they are particularly slick.

    Hot Water

    • Faulty plumbing can expose people in the bath or shower to scalding water. Touching a hot water faucet could also lead to burns.

    Loose Fixtures

    • Fixtures such as knobs or bathtub door handles can cause accidents by coming loose when a person is using them to get out of the bath.

    Drug Production

    • Bathtubs with stains or strong chemical odors may have been used by criminals as a makeshift meth lab.
