Check whether the travel itinerary allows the suit to be transported in a garment bag. Allowing the suit components to hang while traveling is an ideal solution to appear freshly pressed at a destination. Inquire about airline carry-on restrictions, as the garment bag can be considered too large or require an additional fee.
Fold the shirt and tie together if the suit must be packed. Place the front side of the shirt downwards, and fold the sleeves toward the back of the shirt, resulting in a rectangle that is approximately 2 inches wider than the width of the collar. Lay the tie along the folded shirt. Place a square of tissue paper in the center of the folded rectangle. Fold each side of the shirt and tie over the tissue to resemble a small padded square.
Fold the suit pants flat and lengthwise so a crease is formed in the center of each pant leg. Place tissue paper between the pant legs, and fold the pants twice, forming a square. Pull the left sleeve of the jacket inside-out and through the right sleeve. Fold the sleeve inwards, forming a curved shape. Place a square of tissue in the center of the jacket, and fold twice.
Unpack the suitcase or garment bag immediately upon arrival at the destination. Gently shake out the suit components, and hang it unfolded in a full-length closet. Allow the suit to hang as long as possible before wearing it to remove any wrinkles from traveling.
