How to Arrange My Trip

When you have to arrange your own plan for a trip it can feel overwhelming at first. You don't need to be a travel expert to plan your own trip. Once you decide on a destination the rest of your trip can be planned based on the type of accommodation and amenities you would like to have available, and the activities you want to do once you get there. Whether you plan a business trip or vacation the same basic guidelines apply to both.

Instructions

    • 1

Write down your destination location and use a map to see how far it is from your starting point. Decide which method of travel will be the fastest, cheapest or most enjoyable for you depending on the distance. Choose air, rail, car, bus or boat. Write down your travel dates and keep these in mind when planning activities that may be in season.

Select an accommodation according to which amenities and atmosphere you would like to enjoy while you are on your trip. You will want to choose an accommodation that provides all the services you will need or want to make the best of your trip according to your budget and taste. Decide on an accommodation that meets your expectations for food service, activities, distance to any local attractions you may wish to partake in. If you are traveling with children you will want to make sure that the hotel, resort or Inn can cater to their needs.

Plan your activities by researching the available excursions, local attractions and the general safety and security of the location you plan to visit. Find out prices, hours of operation and other pertinent details using an Internet based search engine to learn more about the location and what sightseeing activities are available. Some examples of things to do on your trip are: guided excursions, historical walking tours, museums, parks, local nightlife and attractions. Contact the venues through their website or by phone to ask your accommodation provider if they offer a discounted deal for tourists.

Set aside some time during your trip for rest and relaxation - you don't want to wear yourself out during your trip. Once you have all of your plans and ideas formulated on paper, make reservations through an online travel agency or with the individual companies themselves - you can make reservations with most major companies online or by telephone if you have a credit card. Ask if there is an "all-inclusive" package which could cover most of your needs and wants; this can save you money and allow to know ahead of time exactly what your costs are. In most cases you will only need money for souvenirs and off-resort activities.

Pack your clothes, camera and toiletries as well as any other items you may need during your trip, such as snorkeling gear if you intend to go snorkeling or hiking shoes for rugged adventures. Pack light - you don't want to drag around any extra baggage. Check with your airline, rail, bus or boat company to make sure your luggage is of the correct weight and that you have not packed any forbidden goods in your "carry-on" luggage. The rules for air travel baggage allowances are constantly changing, always call ahead to double check for any changes, and pack in accordance to their guidelines.
