Remove any extra items from your luggage. This means taking all clothes, jewelry, and accessories out of the luggage. Do a quick inspection to ensure that an earring hasn't fallen underneath the liner and that no liquids have leaked in the luggage. Also check to make sure that nothing has gotten caught in the wheels, handles, zippers, or other moving parts.
Do a quick cleaning of your luggage. If you went to the beach, vacuum your suitcase to make sure all the sand is gone. Otherwise, depending on your luggage's fabric, simply wipe down the inside and outside of your suitcase with a damp cloth.
Perform any minor repairs that are needed. If there are small holes, it is best to find and fix them when they're small instead of waiting until they've grown. If your luggage is leather, consider applying a leather cleanser or conditioner. Check all zippers, wheels, and moving parts. If needed oil wheels and apply petroleum jelly to sticky parts of the zipper.
Now that your bags are ready to be stored, make sure their storage area is just as clean as they are. Sweep, wipe or vacuum the area where the bags will be stored. Select an area that is dry and not susceptible to moisture, especially if the luggage is vintage or will be damaged if it gets wet.
Arrange your luggage by size. One of the best ways to store luggage is to place smaller pieces of luggage inside larger pieces. However, make sure that stacking the luggage in that way does not put stress on the seams of any of the pieces of luggage. Once you've arranged the pieces appropriately, place them in storage. Then, when you're ready for your next trip, your luggage will be just as ready as you are.
