Apprenticeship Programs in BC Canada

Apprenticeship programs allow students in certain industries to learn a trade via a combination of paid employment and work training. The training can come in the form of a classroom setting or a shop setting. In order to become certified in the trade, the student has to pass both the classroom and workshop sections, and will have to pass examinations as well.
  1. Red Seal Program

    • The goal of this program is provide a standard for training and certification across the Canadian provinces and territories. Students who graduate from the journeyperson level will have the ability to work anywhere in Canada.

      There are a variety of trades that a student can take from the Red Seal Program, including automotive service technician, glazier, cook and cabinetmaker. A full list of trade programs can be found on the company's website.

    Industry Training Authority

    • The Industry Training Authority is British Columbia has a comprehensive industry training body for apprenticeship programs. There are close to 140 apprenticeships available through ITA, and it provides information on how to obtain your certification in these trades.

      The ITA site also provides a variety of information on industry news, contact information for programs and employers, and statistical information about the training programs.     Okanagan College Trades and Apprenticeship Programs

    • Okanagan College in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia offers apprenticeship programs in aircraft maintenance,construction trades, collision repair, culinary arts, mechanical building trades, motor vehicle trades and welding

      There are certain pre-requisites to enter the apprenticeship programs. These requirements can be found on the school's website. The school also offers Entry Level Trades Training (ELTT) classes. Those who complete the above apprenticeships qualify for Red Seal Journeyperson status. This means that he/she can work anywhere in Canada without having to be re-certified.
