Know what the weather will be like at your destination site. Make sure that you pack clothing appropriate to the season, taking into account weather changes that will take place while you are there.
Be aware of appropriate clothing standards for the culture you will be visiting. Are shorts appropriate? Do the women wear skirts at all times? You want to pack enough clothing that will be culturally appropriate.
Pack clothing that can be layered, such as T-shirts, long sleeved shirts and sweaters. Choose items that will coordinate with several other items. The more neutral the colors you choose, the easier it will be to coordinate them with other clothing items.
Choose three to four pairs of pants or jeans that you can wear on a regular basis. This number may sound small, but pants are bulky and take up a lot of room in a suitcase. They can be washed along the way as necessary.
Pick items that you know are comfortable and do not wrinkle easily. You will be stuck with these clothes for a few months, so you want to make sure that you choose comfortable clothing you don't mind wearing over and over again.
Include semi-formal and formal attire if you are going to need to dress up for an occasion. Don't forget to try to only pack items that do not wrinkle easily.
Take one or two pairs of pajamas. This is one item you can definitely wear repeatedly without having to feel self-conscious.
Choose two to four pairs of shoes, selecting pairs that are durable and that you can wear with all of your clothing options. Make sure they are appropriate for any activities you will be doing.
