Microsoft Streets and Tips is trip planning software for your PC. It allows you to view different types of maps including road maps for road trips, political maps for interstate travel, and terrain maps for things like camping or hiking.       Purchase and install the software on your computer. It can be purchased and downloaded from the Microsoft website. Once it is finished with the installation process, it will automatically open so that you can start using it.

      Import personal addresses if you have any particular relatives or other specific addresses that you would like to visit. Go to "Data," and click "Import Data Wizard." Browse through your computer for the file that you would like to import. When you find the file, select it and then click "Open." Then select a dataset within the file. This is a specific sheet range if you are importing from Excel or a specific table from Access. Click "Next" or skip this step if you do not have to choose a dataset. Continue and specify the country or region for the data, and click "Finish."

      Create the route for your trip. Select route planner from the Standard toolbar, and go to "Type place or address" to add your starting point. Then, click "Add to Route." You can also set your driving preferences and gas mileage by clicking the "More Options" button. You should now see your driving directions.

      Send your route to your portable GPS system. Connect your GPS to your computer using your USB cable. Go to the Tools menu on the top menu, and select "Send to GPS." You will now see a window asking you if you would like to send the route through USB or Wirelessly. Select USB and then click "Next." Your Map will now be sent to your GPS system.
