How to Pack in One Suitcase

With airlines consistently increasing the cost for additional luggage, it is more important than ever to pack less and fit everything into one suitcase. Several techniques, such as rolling clothing together, using space-saver bags and creating multiple outfits out of a few staple articles of clothing, are ways to get everything to fit into one suitcase.

Instructions

Roll your clothes. Roll pants, shorts, athletic shirts and skirts to save room. Lay the article of clothing down flat, fold it back and roll from the bottom up.

    • 2

Fold similar items together. For example, if you have two long-sleeved white t-shirts, intertwine the shirts together, and fold or roll them as if they were one shirt. This technique gives you more room because you are taking up the amount of space for one shirt instead of two.

Use space-saver bags. Space-saver bags suction a group of clothing together by removing the air to keep your clothing compact. These bags give you up to 50 percent more space available in your suitcase than you would with any other method. Space-saver bags are ideal for pillows, sweaters, jackets and any bulky items. You can find space-saver bags online.

Limit your packed clothing. Choose a few basic color schemes that will match most of your clothes so that you can pack less but still have a variety of outfits. Limit yourself to a few pairs of shoes because shoes are heavy and require a lot of space. Bring extra accessories so that you can rewear an outfit by differently accessorizing it.
