How to Pack Clothes for a Man's Business Trip

Knowing how to properly pack a suitcase is essential, whether you are a regular traveler or just taking a one-time trip. Packing correctly not only helps ensure that the limited space in a suitcase is used effectively, but it also helps prevent clothing from becoming wrinkled or damaged during the journey. A suitcase that is packed well will be easier to unpack when you arrive at your destination.

Instructions

    • 1

Pack trousers by placing the waistband along either inside edge of the suitcase. For now, allow the ends of the trousers to hang outside the edge of the suitcase. Place a piece of tissue paper over the trousers.

    • 2

Place additional pairs of trousers into the suitcase in the same manner as the first pair. With each pair, alternate which side of the suitcase the waistband is placed. This will ensure an even packing surface. Place a piece of tissue in the suitcase after each pair of trousers.

    • 3

Place a suit jacket into the suitcase, facing you. Bring the sleeves toward the center of the jacket, making sure the entire jacket fits comfortably in the suitcase. Allow the bottom of the jacket to hang over the edge of the suitcase. Place a layer of tissue paper on top of the jacket and rolled up tissue paper in the sleeves. Pack additional jackets in the same manner.

    • 4

Pack socks, underwear and undershirts in the spaces around the shoulders of the jacket. This will help maintain an even packing surface. Place a layer of tissue on top of the socks and underwear.

    • 5

Place a buttoned dress shirt into the suitcase and fold the sleeves inward at the shoulders, one crossed over the other. The bottom of the shirt should be hanging out of the suitcase, over the bottom of the jacket. Place rolled up tissue paper in the neck of the shirt, and a piece of tissue paper on top. Additional dress shirts can be packed the same way.

    • 6

Fold the bottom of the shirt into the suitcase so that it is on top of all the other contents. Place a piece of tissue paper on the shirt and repeat the process for any remaining shirts. Follow the same process to fold in the jackets and then the trousers.

    • 7

Roll up any belts around the buckle and wrap them in tissue paper. Pack them along the bottom of the suitcase. Shoes, placed into shoe bags, should also be packed along the bottom. Soles of the shoes should be against the bottom of the suitcase and the heels should be in the corners.

Use a sheet of tissue paper to carefully wrap multiple neckties. Keep the ties flat and fold the tissue over each one before adding another tie. Place the folded ties on top of the other clothing in the suitcase.
