How to Pack Wool Dress Slacks

Packing for travel can be a frustrating experience, as you don't want your clothes to look wrinkled upon arrival. Wool fabrics are particularly difficult to pack, as they can wrinkle easily and often require pressing or steaming to look fresh again. Sometimes garment bags are not an option, and wool slacks must be packed into a suitcase. Fortunately, a few basic packing techniques can keep your wool slacks looking pressed and crisp, even after spending hours in a suitcase.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the indentations at the bottom of your suitcase. You will want to fill this area with soft items such as socks, underwear and T-shirts. This will provide a soft layer of cushioning to pack your slacks on, and will protect them from creasing across the luggage frame.

    • 2

Fold your wool slacks in half at the crease. Place your slacks in the bottom of the suitcase, parallel to the widest part of the bag. Move the waistband to the edge of the suitcase so that it is flush, but not crushed. Leave the pant legs draped over the side of the luggage.

    • 3

Pack other clothing on top of the pants. Carefully place all of your folded clothing in the suitcase, with the pant legs remaining dangling over the edge. Do not place any hard items such as shoes or toiletries directly on top of the pants.

    • 4

Fold the legs of the slacks over the other clothing. Without creasing the legs, gently lay them over the top of the rest of the clothing in the suitcase. If your pants are long, carefully tuck the cuffs between the edge of the clothing and the edge of the suitcase, taking care not to crush the hem.
