How Can I Pack a Nice Dress in My Backpack?

Properly packing a backpack can be a difficult chore, but learning to pack a nice dress in your backpack so that it is presentable when you need it, is a challenge all of its own. Items must be placed in specific areas of the pack to be comfortable when hiking or traveling, and many campgrounds, hostels and hotels are not outfitted with clothing irons to spruce up your dress before a night on the town. Use one of three techniques to pack your nice dress to minimize wrinkles and creases.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a nice dress made of synthetic fabric that is less likely to wrinkle, like a cotton, polyester, tencel and spandex blend.

    • 2

Reduce friction and wrinkles by wrapping your dress in gift wrap tissue or a plastic dry cleaning bag before packing it in your backpack.

    • 3

Roll the dress before loading it into your backpack to reduce creases.

    • 4

Bundle-wrap the dress with your other clothes to reduce both wrinkles and creases. Wrap each clothing item separately around a soft core object. Begin with items that do not wrinkle easily, and finish with larger items like your nice dress. Secure the bundle in your backpack.

    • 5

Pack the dress in the bottom of the pack, or in an external zippered pouch, when traveling. Shake the dress out when you arrive at your destination.
