How to Repair an Army Canvas Tent

Repairing an army canvas tent is similar to repairing any other type of canvas tent. The one thing to keep in mind is that you may want to use an army green material for patching the tent. It is always important to be prepared when your are camping. Make it a habit to keep a tent repair kit with you, and you will always be prepared if your tent becomes damaged.

  • Needle
  • Heavy-duty waxed string
  • Army-colored waterproof canvas
  • Scissors
  • Seam sealer/beeswax
  • Fabric cement

      Sew the damaged area together with a large needle and heavy-duty waxed string.

      Cut two patches from a piece of waterproof canvas with a pair of scissors. One patch is for the inside, and the other patch is for the outside of the tent. The patches should be 2 inches larger on all four sides than the damaged area they are covering.

      Align the patch over the damaged area on the inside of the tent. Sew the patch with a needle and thread. Apply a coat of seam sealer or beeswax to seam around the edges of the patch.

      Attach the exterior patch to the tent with fabric cement or glue. Hold it firmly in place for the recommended drying time. Apply a generous amount of seam sealer or beeswax to the edges of the exterior patch.
