JetBlue Luggage Rules

Travelers know JetBlue Airlines as the company that has the planes with the most legroom, leather seats and DirecTV in the back of each seat. The average amount of legroom passengers have on an airplane is 31 inches. The standard amount of legroom on a JetBlue flight is 34 inches. Beginning in 2010, JetBlue offers passengers the option of paying an additional $10 to upgrade to an "Even More Legroom" seat, with 38 inches of space between you and the seat in front of you. JetBlue provides service between more than 50 cities all over the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean and features many of the same luggage policies as other airlines.
  1. Carry-Ons and Personal Items

    • Similar to other airlines, JetBlue allows passengers to bring on board one carry-on item in addition to one small personal item. Laptop bags, briefcases, handbags and diaper bags are considered personal items and must not be larger than 17 inches in length, 12.5 inches wide and 8 inches in height. Carry-on bags must not exceed 26 inches by 18 inches by 12 inches for larger planes and 24 inches by 16 inches by 10 inches for smaller planes. Any passenger with medical items may still bring a carry-on and a personal item as your medical equipment does not count as a carry-on or personal item. JetBlue planes are not equipped with closets for your garment bags. Liquids must follow the 3-1-1 rule stated by the Transportation Security Administration (see Resources).

    Checked Bags

    • JetBlue allows each passenger one checked bag per flight at no additional cost. Checking additional bags requires that you pay a fee. The fee, as of 2010, is $30 for a second checked bag and $75 per bag for additional bags. JetBlue asks that your checked bags not exceed 50 lbs and 62 inches -- height x width x length. You will be charged a fee if your bag is overweight and/or oversized. Bags weighing 51 to 70 lbs. cost an additional $50 per bag and bags 71 to 99 lbs. cost $100 to check. Your bag will not be accepted by JetBlue if it weighs more than 99 lbs. Bags 63 to 80 inches cost $75 per bag and anything over 80 inches will not be accepted. No oversize or overweight bags of any kind are permitted on flights to the Dominican Republic. Bags must be checked at least 30 minutes prior to departure to ensure they make it aboard your flight.

    Children's Items

    • JetBlue passengers traveling with infants and small children are permitted to bring aboard additional items at no cost. Lap infants are children younger than two years of age who are non-ticketed passengers sitting on the lap of a parent. Lap infants are not permitted to check luggage, but you may bring one diaper bag, one stroller and one car seat aboard your flight free of charge. Ticketed children do qualify to check bags. Baby formula and baby food items are not required to abide by the TSA's 3-1-1 rule, but they must be declared at the airport security checkpoint prior to boarding your flight.
