AirTran Luggage Rules

AirTran Airways is a low-cost carrier that offers daily flight service to 70 destinations throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean.
  1. Carry On

    • Travelers are allowed one piece of luggage that does not exceed 55 combined inches and one personal item, including handbags, laptops, purses, briefcases and camera cases.

    Checked Bags

    • Customers are allowed to check two bags; the first bag can be checked for $15, and the second is $25. Baggage fees are charged per flight.

    Excess Bags

    • After the first two bags, there is $50 charge per item. Sporting equipment will incur additional fees.

    Overweight Bags

    • Effective Oct.1, 2009, there is a $49 charge for bags weighing 51 to 70 lbs. Bags weighing 71 to 100 lbs. are charged $79 per bag; bags exceeding 100 lbs. will not be accepted.

    Oversized Bags

    • Effective Oct. 1, 2009, there is no extra charge for bags 62 to 70 combined inches; there's a $79 fee for bags with dimensions from 71 to 80 inches. Bags over 80 combined inches will not be accepted.

    TSA Liquid Requirements

    • Carry-on liquids are limited to 3.4 oz each, and they must be packed in clear, 1-quart zip-top bags. There is a one zip-top bag limit per passenger.
