Dress in layers of clothing. Temperatures in Colorado tend to vary throughout the day. Dressing in layers allows you to be able to shed clothing if the temperature rising and cover up when the temperature drops.
Wear silk, polyester or synthetic materials as underclothes. Avoid wearing cotton against your skin. Cotton retains moisture from your sweat, and you need to keep your skin as dry as possible during the winter.
Include a hat in your winter wardrobe to prevent losing precious body heat. Keep your ears covered to protect yourself from frostbite.
Buy an insulated winter coat. Depending on your plans for the day, a fur-lined coat may be a good idea for a casual outing. Water-resistant ski jackets are recommended if you plan to spend the day in the snow.
Protect your fingers and toes by wearing gloves or mittens and thick, wool socks. Your gloves should be water-resistant and insulated. Avoid wearing cotton socks, as cotton retains moisture.
Choose your shoes wisely. Wear shoes that are well-insulated yet not too tight to constrict blood flow.
