1. Meet the eligibility requirements. To become a British citizen, you must:
* Be at least 18 years old.
* Be of sound mind and not currently bankrupt.
* Have lived in the UK for at least 5 years out of the last 10 years.
* Have no serious criminal convictions.
* Be able to speak and understand English to a sufficient level.
* Have a good knowledge of British society, culture and values.
2. Apply for citizenship. Once you meet the eligibility requirements, you can apply for citizenship by submitting an application form and paying the application fee. The application form can be found on the UK government website.
3. Attend an interview. If your application is successful, you will be invited to attend an interview. The interview will be conducted by an officer of the UK Border Agency. The officer will ask you about your background and your knowledge of British society, culture and values.
4. Pass the citizenship test. You will also be required to pass a citizenship test. The test consists of 24 multiple-choice questions about British society, culture and values. You must score at least 18 out of 24 to pass the test.
5. Take the Oath of Allegiance. Once you have passed the citizenship test, you will be invited to take the Oath of Allegiance. The Oath of Allegiance is a promise to be loyal to the UK and its laws.
6. Receive your citizenship certificate. Once you have taken the Oath of Allegiance, you will receive your citizenship certificate. Your citizenship certificate is proof that you are a British citizen.
