The KBP is currently led by its General Director, Bajram Rexhepi. The KBP is headquartered in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo. The KBP has a total of 1,500 employees, including 1,000 police officers.
The KBP was established in 1999, after the Kosovo War. The KBP was initially part of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). However, in 2008, Kosovo declared independence from Serbia, and the KBP became an independent agency of the government of Kosovo.
The KBP is responsible for a variety of border security tasks, including:
- Controlling and monitoring the movement of people and goods across the border
- Preventing the entry of illegal immigrants and the smuggling of contraband
- Investigating crimes related to border security
- Cooperating with other law enforcement agencies in Kosovo and abroad
- Providing support to the Kosovo Armed Forces in the defence of the country
The KBP has a number of challenges to face, including:
- The porous borders of Kosovo, which make it difficult to control the movement of people and goods
- The high level of corruption in Kosovo, which can lead to the smuggling of contraband and other illegal activities
- The lack of resources and training for the KBP, which can make it difficult to effectively carry out its mission
The KBP is working to address these challenges and to improve its border security capabilities. The KBP is also working to strengthen its cooperation with other law enforcement agencies in Kosovo and abroad.
