Requirements to Drive From Canada to the USA

Entry Into Canada

• Canadian authorities require that all individuals wishing to enter the country carry proof of citizenship and identity.

Proof of Citizenship

• Proof of citizenship must be presented in the form of either a valid USA passport, passport card or NEXUS card. Canadian authorities will accept these documents for both proof of citizenship and identity.

Proof of Identity

• Proof of identity must be presented in the form of a USA birth or naturalization certificate.This must be presented along with a valid photo ID, such as a driver's license, in order to establish proof of identity and citizenship.

Re-entry Into the USA

• USA citizens traveling by land must present a passport, passport card or enhanced driver's license (EDL) for entry into the country.

Canadian Citizens

• Canadian citizens wishing to travel to the USA and/or re-enter Canada must present a Canadian passport, enhanced driver's license or NEXUS card.
