How to Renew an Expired Ghana Passport

If a renewal of your Ghana passport is overdue, it is important to apply well in advance of any travel plans as processing time can take up to a month. Instructions

    • 1

Complete the Passport Application Form obtained at the nearest consular office of Ghana. The form must be purchased at a cost of about 20 US$.

    • 2

Obtain four passport-sized photos (2 x 2.5 in) that are identical to each other and truly representative of yourself.

    • 3

Attach your expired passport to the application and photos. In the case of a lost or stolen passport, submit a police report, an alternate form of state ID and your birth certificate.

    • 4

Pay your passport application processing fee payment in the form of money order, cashier's check or cash (the latter is only accepted when paying in person). The processing fee amounts to 80 US$ for a typical renewal and 160 US$ for replacing a lost or stolen passport.

    • 5

Hand-deliver or send all your documents to the nearest Ghana consular section. Wait two to four weeks for your renewal to be processed. If you need yours in a hurry, passport expediting services are often offered, but generally not for renewals of missing passports.
