How to Renew a Government Passport

Passports must be renewed every 10 years, depending on the country. In the United States, citizens are permitted to renew a U.S. passport online or by mail as long as they reside in the country and there is no name change associated with the renewal. Passport renewals can be completed online or via mail in the United Kingdom.

In the U.K., a resident who has known you for at least two years must certify the passport photos.

Assemble an envelope of the application requirements, including the passport application form, your existing passport, two new photos and a form of payment for the passport fee.

    • 6

Mail the completed envelope to the address listed on the application.
