In general, immigrants who are detained for medical reasons will be housed in a medical unit or hospital within the detention facility. They will be seen by a doctor or nurse regularly and will receive any necessary medications or treatments. If the immigrant's medical condition is serious or requires specialized care, they may be transferred to a hospital outside of the detention facility.
In some cases, immigrants who are detained for medical reasons may be released from detention on humanitarian parole. This allows them to receive medical care outside of detention while their immigration case is pending. Humanitarian parole is granted on a case-by-case basis and is not available to everyone.
If an immigrant is detained for medical reasons and is not eligible for humanitarian parole, they will remain in detention until their medical condition improves or until their immigration case is resolved.
