How to Obtain a Visa for the Ukraine

If you would like to visit the second largest nation in Eastern Europe, Ukraine would be your destination. Unless you are a citizen of the United States, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, San Marino, Monaco, Andorra, South Korea, Iceland, The Vatican, Liechtenstein, Norway, Hungary, Poland, Mongolia, Lithuania, or a member country of the European Union, you must apply for a Ukrainian visa to visit the country. The Embassy of Ukraine in Washington, D.C. and its consular offices in New York, Chicago and San Francisco process and approve visa applications. You may apply for your visa by mail or in person.

Instructions

    • 1

      Have a 35 by 45 mm photograph taken of you. Your photo must look similar to that used in your passport.

    • 2

      Download a Visa Application Form from the homepage of the Consulate General of Ukraine in San Francisco. Print the downloaded form.

    • 3

      Complete the form by hand, making sure to provide as much detail as possible. Paste your photograph in the box provided on page one of the application form.

    • 4

      Gather supporting documents for your specific visa type.

      If you are applying for a Tourist visa, and you are a citizen of the United States, Canada or a European Union member country, you must have an invitation letter from a U.S. or Ukrainian tourist agency, hotel reservations in Ukraine and a round trip ticket. The Ukrainian National Air Carrier must issue the ticket.

      Unless you are a citizen of Canada, United States, Japan, Switzerland, Turkey, or a member country of the European Union, you must have an original letter of invitation from a legally recognized entity in Ukraine if you are applying for a Business visa. If you are from one of the countries listed, you do not need a letter of invitation to apply for a Business visa.

    • 5

      Make a copy of your U.S. immigration document, such as your Permanent Resident Card, or valid U.S. visa, if you are not a U.S. citizen.

    • 6

      Prepare a money order covering the visa's processing fee. The money order must be made payable to the Embassy/Consulate General of Ukraine, depending on where you choose to mail your application materials to.

      Mail your application and supporting documents via certified mail to the Ukraine Embassy/Consular office that is closest to your location;
