How to Obtain a Work Visa for Argentina

Due to the major growth in South America, there are many employers looking for skilled workers in Argentina. These needs range from business to science to education. There are several opportunities for those who would like to work in the country. The work visa application for Argentina can be a lengthy process for Americans.

      Find work. Before filling out a work visa application you need to have a job offer. Once you have a job offer, send a request to your employer saying that you need a copy of your employment contact, so you can submit it to the Argentina embassy. The passport must also have one free page for visa stickers and stamps.

      Acquire a valid passport. A valid passport must have one year left before it expires. Remember this is one year from the date you plan on entering Argentina, not one year from the date you start filling out the visa application. Less than one year on the passport can result in a denial of the visa.

      Make sure that you have an entry permit. The entry permit application should have been filled out prior to the work visa application. Most of the time this is submitted by the new employer. This can take up to one month to process. If submitted by the new employee it can take up to four months to process. Once the entry permit is issued, it will have to be submitted to the Embassy with the work visa application information.

      Obtain all necessary documents. In order to complete the application you will need to verify information on your birth certificate, marriage certificate (if applicable), and police records. (This can be requested several different ways---i.e. originals or copies.)

      Get your photo taken. Six passport photos will be required to be submitted with the competed application.

      Complete the application form. The application is two pages long and is available for download on the Argentina Embassy website. The questions consist of full name, date of birth, address, citizenship information, where you will be in Argentina, and that you have not committed any crimes against the Argentinean government.

      Sign the affidavit. The affidavit simply states that you have not completed any unlawful acts, that you are eligible for entry into Argentina and you will are not entering as a political refugee.

      Submit your application and wait for it to process. The application must be submitted in person to any of the consulates or embassy. This is because a personal interview, fingerprints, signing of additional forms may be needed. The application with all of the information must be submitted with at least one month before planned departure. Processing normally takes ten days, but it can take up to three weeks.
