How to Get an Emergency Travel Visa on Health Grounds

To travel to the United States for health reasons, the traveler will still have to go through the visa application process. In the United States, the visa for health grounds is the same as the visa for tourism; it is called the B-2 visa. Citizens of many countries are part of the visa waiver program and no visa is required to enter the country. However, if you do not fall into this category then you must expedite the B-2 application process.

Instructions

Obtain a valid passport. In order to be granted a travel visa you must have at least six months before your passport expires, from your intended date of entry. The passport must also have at least one empty page to place all of the appropriate visa stickers and stamps.

Fill out the DS-160 application. This application can be filled out online. It can be found on the United States Embassy website. The application will prompt you through several questions. The questions will be in regards to citizenship information, passport information, prior work history and educational history. After you complete the application there will be a couple of pages that need to be printed. Print and sign them. You will have to turn these papers into the regional embassy or consulate.

    • 3

Pay your application fees. The application fees can be paid online. You must print your receipt and bring it with you to your appointment time in order to show that you have paid your processing fees.

    • 4

Get your picture taken. A passport photo will be required to be submitted with the application. Make sure that the photo follows the exact guidelines issued about passport photos.

    • 5

Pay the processing fee. This fee and how to pay it varies from country to country so make sure to check with your local embassy website for instructions on how to pay the application fee.

    • 6

Schedule an appointment time. Each embassy's procedure is different, some will require that you mail/FED-ex in the DS-160 application and they will issue you an appointment time, and others will require that you schedule the appointment yourself online. Check with your local embassy website to see how to go about making your appointment. Note: Absolutely no American embassy or consulate allows walk-in service. You must have an appointment.

    • 7

Bring all appropriate documents to your scheduled appointment time. At your scheduled appointment time bring in your DS-160 application print out, passport, and your medical records and referral. The US consulate services will ask a few questions about the purpose of your planned visit and it would be helpful in their decision to issue the visa if you are able to provide documentation to back up your claim.

Receive your passport in the mail. Most consulates and embassies will be able to process your application within a few days and most people will have received their visa and passport in the mail within seven days. If your B-2 visa was approved you will receive a one year multiple entry visa
