Visa Requirements for British Citizens Travelling to India

Visas are required for all foreign nationals entering India. Passports are also required. If you are transiting through India, you must have a transit visa and proof of continuing travel within 72 hours of arrival.
  1. General

    • You must have had your passport for six months, pay the fee, and supply two recent passport-sized photographs, supporting documents (if necessary) and a completed application form.

    Tourist Visa

    • This visa is only for short-term stay in India. They are neither extendable nor convertible. Travel agents may be eligible for a longer visa.

    Fees

    • As of 2009, a tourist visa costs 30 pounds. An additional pound is charged if the application is mailed. Emergency visas are an additional 25 pounds.

    Visa Offices

    • There are visa offices in London, Birmingham and Edinburgh. Visas are issued from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, except holidays (see Resources).

    Additional Charges

    • Certain services, such as attestation of documents, affidavits and other travel-related issues, incur additional fees (see Resources).
