What Work Can a Florida Handyman License Cover?

A Florida Handyman License (officially a Certified Contractor – Handyman category) permits a broad range of minor repairs and improvements without requiring a specialty trade license. However, strict limits apply.

Permitted Work (examples)

• Carpentry (trim, doors, cabinets)
• Painting (interior/exterior)
• Minor plumbing (faucets, toilets, drain cleaning – not pipe replacement >¾")
• Minor electrical (fixtures, switches, outlets – not >150V or panel work)
• Roofing repairs (patching, shingles – not full re-roof)
• Tile, flooring, drywall repair
• Window/door installation (non-structural)
• Deck/fence repair (non-structural)
• Gutter, caulking, weatherstripping, pressure washing

Prohibited Work (requires separate license)

• HVAC / refrigeration
• Asbestos/lead/mold remediation
• Structural engineering/alterations
• Pool/spa construction
• Septic systems
• Gas lines
• Fire alarm/sprinkler systems
• Elevators
• Any work exceeding $1,000 contract value (some jurisdictions)

License Requirements
