Ways to Identify Luggage

You've just gotten off a long flight and now you're standing at the baggage claim with a traveler who examines nearly every piece of luggage. You, on the other hand, get to sit back and relax as bags pass by because you've strategically marked your piece of luggage. By marking or purchasing certain styles of luggage, it will be easier to identify your bags.
  1. Brightly Colored Luggage

    • Brightly colored luggage is some of the easiest to spot once it glides off the conveyor belt. With most luggage consisting of shades of black or blue, you'll be able to see your red, pink or yellow suitcase almost immediately. If you prefer something less bright, tan, light brown or cream luggage are also available, and will still be easier to identify when surrounded by a mass of dark hues. For additional convenience, tie a brightly colored ribbon or string to your suitcase.

    Tape Patterns/Marks

    • If you're adamant about using dark hued luggage, there are still ways to make your life easier when searching. Take colored tape -- colors range from yellow, to red, to purple -- and tape them in a pattern on both sides of your suitcase; you never know during transition which side of the suitcase will be facing up. Markings or patterns can include a giant "x," two white lines down the middle, your initials or even two lines of zig-zags. Make sure the patterns are appropriate and not against TSA guidelines. If you cannot find colored tape, duct tape also works just as well.

    Luggage Straps

    • Luggage straps placed along the handles help when identifying your luggage. Luggage straps come in an array of colors. Depending on your taste, straps are available with college sports themes, basic blacks and bright colors such as red, lime and purple. Brightly colored straps would make it easier to spot your luggage from afar. Some travel companies such as Adventures by Disney provides velcro luggage straps prior to departure. Remember to keep these straps after the tour for future use.
