The Components of Luggage

Having a luggage set is imperative to any traveler who plans to spend more than a week away from home. Luggage provides a place for you to take with you everything you need. Plan your packing around the different components of your luggage set.
  1. Large Roller Bag

    • The largest bag in your luggage set is meant to be used for long trips. In this bag, you can pack a couple of week's worth of shirts, pants and underwear, as well as a pair or two of shoes and other items you wish to take with you. This bag has to be checked on an airplane, as it is too large to stow in the overhead cabin compartments.

    Medium Roller Bag

    • This smaller bag is ideal for short business trips or trips to see family or friends who have many of your everyday items already in their home. Depending on the climate you're traveling to, this piece of luggage can hold up to a week's worth of clothes, and an extra pair of shoes as well as your toiletries. As long as this bag is not overstuffed, it is also ideal to take with you onto the airplane as it meets size regulations for carry-on luggage for most commercial airplanes.

    Carry-on Bag

    • The smaller bag in your luggage set with a shoulder strap and two handles is meant to be used as a carry-on bag. In this bag, you could pack your essentials, such as medicine, books, music or anything else you like to keep on hand while you're traveling. If you pack your toiletries in this bag, however, you need to make sure you follow the guidelines set by the Transportation Safety Administration. Be aware that liquids and other items are heavily regulated.

    Toiletry Bag

    • The smallest bag in your luggage set is meant for toiletries, as it often comes lined in plastic. This bag, however, if you put any type of liquid inside of it, should be stored in your checked luggage per TSA requirements. Any liquids in your carry-on luggage should be carried in a 1-quart clear plastic zip-top bag. If you merely need to store smaller, dry items, you can take this bag inside your carry-on.
